Although
the entire Job Corps training program is considered school-to-career (STC)
preparation, a specialized program is offered that allows trainees the
opportunity to gain valuable work experience in an internship capacity.
These STC internships typically last between six and eight weeks, and may
be paid or unpaid positions depending on the type of work site. While in
the STC program, trainees remain employees of Inland Empire Job Corps.
Meals, transportation costs and all insurance requirements are covered
by the the center. |

Participating companies use the STC internship
period to evaluate the skills of the potential employee, and often times
hire these Job Corps trainees after graduation. Local employers may also
provide valuable assistance by serving on the center's advisory boards.
These boards are invaluable in order to maintain relevancy in workplace
skills. Board members meet quarterly to review their vocation and
make recommendations that impact training. Employer volunteers are selected
from the local community and serve for one-year terms. Such participation
allows employers to share in the training process to help ensure that their
own work requirements are met.
